Course Description
NAIT and Lethbridge Polytechnic's Medical First Responder (MFR) course will appeal to individuals interested in a career or volunteer opportunities with metro or rural fire rescue services, police, industrial safety sectors, safety and security enforcement officers, and other professions that require MFR expertise. Upon successful completion of this course, you will have the essential skills needed to provide first-on-scene basic emergency care to patients before Emergency Medical Services (EMS) arrives. NAIT and Lethbridge Polytechnic's MFR Program meets the Edmonton Fire Rescue Services recruitment qualifications and is approved at an Advanced First Aid level by Alberta Occupational Health and Safety. MFR is a foundational step toward becoming a Primary Care Paramedic (PCP).

Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, you will achieve the following certifications:
- NAIT Medical First Responder (MFR) Advanced First Aid Certification*
- International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) Basic Provider Certification
- Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada - Basic Life Support - Level C Certification
Prerequisites
- Heart and Stroke or Red Cross Intermediate Standard First Aid Certificate is suggested.
- Must be at least 16 years of age.
