« back to classes page
Course Description
5th Class Power Engineering is an introduction to the basic design, operation and maintenance of heating and other mechanical equipment used in industry, school, apartments, and office buildings of small to moderate size.
Power engineers are trained to safely operate and maintain refrigeration equipment, generators, and any other machines dealing with thermal properties. An individual with this type of certification is trained for entry level positions, and is typically qualified to work in smaller plants or with systems used at schools and office buildings. This course supplements a person’s practical qualifying time of at least six months experience by providing the theoretical training required to write the ABSA exam.
Outcomes
Upon successful completion of 5th Class Power Engineering, you will:
be prepared to challenge the Alberta Boiler Safety Association 5th Class Power Engineering Certificate
have the theoretical training to accompany your practical experience with refrigeration equipment, generators, and any other machine dealing with thermal properties
obtain a Letter of Recognition outlining your completion of the course
Prerequisites
No prerequisites required.
Notes
ABSA exam will need to be booked directly through ABSA.
In order to qualify for the ABSA Exam and receive the corresponding certificate, you must have operated a Power Plant or Heating Plant Boiler for a period of six months and have successfully completed this course.
Course fees do not include the required textbook.
